 Breaking box office records in Indonesia, "How To Make Millions Before Grandma Dies" (exclusive)


With more than two million admissions, GDH 559's How To Make Millions Before Grandma Dies—which was already the biggest movie at the Thai box office in 2024—has become the second-biggest Asian title at the Indonesian box office ever.

On May 27, 13 days after its premiere through Indonesian distributor Falcon Pictures, the family drama achieved its milestone.


It has surpassed the 700,000 admissions of the Thai-Korean horror film The Medium in 2021 to become the biggest Thai film. It is also the second-biggest Asian picture in Indonesia, behind the Korean supernatural thriller Exhuma, which brought in 2.6 million admissions earlier this year.


 Falcon believes that With the current momentum, How To Make Millions Before Grandma Dies will surpass Exhuma and break even more records. When the movie debuted on May 15, 303 theaters saw it, with an occupancy rate of about 90%. Because of this and the rapid word-of-mouth that followed, the film saw 3,514 screenings on May 27, which accounted for 35.8% of daily showings and was the highest number of screenings for any movie at the time of release. The Thai film is being screened at major theater chains, such as Cinepolis, CGV, and Cinema XXI.Falcon Pictures' Frederica declared, "It's a fantastic case with strong buzz." Viewers have evolved significantly since COVID-19.

According to Frederica, although Indonesian film is growing, horror films still control the majority of the local box office, which makes this family drama's triumph all the more remarkable.
Local horror hits of late include Vina: Sebelum 7 Hari, which opened this year, with around 5.5 million admissions, KKN Di Desa Penari, which nearly reached 10 million admissions in 2022, and its predecessor, Badarawuhi Di Desa Penari, with about 4 million admissions.

The movie's international distribution continues today, May 29, with Westec Media in the Philippines; on May 30, it opens in Laos (M Pictures), Malaysia (Golden Screen), and Singapore (Golden Village Pictures); on June 7, it opens in Vietnam (Blue Lantern); on June 18, it opens in Cambodia (Westec Media); and on June 21, it opens in Taiwan (Catchplay). Additionally, it has been taken up by Teamer Media in China, Intercontinental in Hong Kong, Westec Media in Australia and New Zealand, and NK Contents in South Korea.
